Robert L. "Rudy" Rudisill, 77, died peacefully, Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Hanover Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Joan (Groft) Rudisill, his wife of 52 years. He was born June 17, 1930, in Hanover, the son of the late Luella (Rudisill) Gochenour. He was retired from Caterpillar in York after 40 years of service. Rudy was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown; a life member of the American Legion Post 14 in Hanover, where he was past commander; the Knights of Columbus in McSherrystown where he was a 4th degree; McSherrystown Moose; Queens Own 32nd Infantry Regiment Association; Hanover VFW; and the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, from which he received two purple hearts. Rudy enlisted in the Army in 1948. During his service his achievements were the Occupation Medal of Japan (1st Cav.), Inchon Invasion Korea (32nd Inf. Regt.), Korean Service Medal with three Campaign Stars, Purple Heart (Andong, Korea), Bronze Star, U.S. Pres. Unit Citation, Combat Ins. Badge, U.N. Service Medal, Good Conduct, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was discharged in 1952. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Brenda Altland and husband, Dennis of Hanover; three sons, Steven Rudisill and wife, Michele of Hanover, David Rudisill of McSherrystown, and Michael Rudisill and wife, Sherry of McSherrystown; eight grandchildren, Danielle Biggins, Paige Rudisill, Adam Rudisill, Aaron Vincion, Shannon Rudisill, Zachary Rudisill, Michael Rudisill, and Darrick Rudisill; and one brother, Gary Gochenour of Dillsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Gochenour. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 8, 200,7 at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown. Burial will be in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown, with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives will be received Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave. McSherrystown, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Altland.
