Harold H. Bair, Post #14 American Legion and Unit #14 American Legion Auxiliary of Hanover sponsored an awards ceremony on Monday, April 27. Eight local schools were asked to select Outstanding and Honorable Mention male and female students from their eighth grade student bodies. This year's speaker was the Reverend Kirk Griffen of the St Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover. Loreen Greer, acting Americanism chairman for unit No. 14, presented the girls' awards and Leroy Zellers, Americanism chairman for Post 14, presented the boys, awards. Also that evening, four winners of the annual Auxiliary Americanism essay contest read their essays and were presented with framed certificate and $50. Approximately two hundred family members, teachers and friends attended the program to honor some of the outstanding youth in the Hanover and surrounding areas. All students are listed with their grade levels at the time of the awards ceremony.
